TOTAL FITNESS Comes to Town

BoomerVenture Campus Winter Registration starts November 14.


Many are tempted to think about fitness as primarily physical. When we say it’s about time that we got fit, we may think only of losing weight and gaining strength. The underlying assumption is that when we look good, we are good. But in reality, that is only one third of the equation. There are two other important elements of fitness that dictate
how we look and feel. Those are the mental and spiritual components.

This winter semester, BoomerVenture
Campus is integrating all three to provide a “Total Fitness” portfolio of programs. Building upon long-standing offerings like “Energize
With Exercise” and “Serenity Yoga,” BoomerVenture is expanding its curriculum to include meditation and a series of lectures
and other activities centered around how our mental and spiritual state affects who we are and how we cope with life’s daily pressures.

ENERGIZE WITH EXERCISE
Mondays, November 28 to February 13; 3:30 p.m; 9 classes for $50; Also Thursdays, December 8 to February 16; 6:00 to 7:00 p.m; 11 classes for $60. Great aerobic workout without going to the gym. Weight training, stretching and meditative cool-down. No prior exercise experience required. Denise Boucher, Instructor.

BOOMER BRIDGE: LET'S PLAY!
Mondays, November 28 to February 13 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.; 9 weeks for $150. Terry Kay Bargar, ACBL/ABTA accredited instructor. This intermediate bridge class examines bidding, playing and defending interesting hands.

MINDFUL MEDITATION
Tuesdays, January 10 to February 14; 7:30 to 8:00 a.m; 6 sessions for $12. The practice of meditation soothes and refreshes mind, body, and spirit. Facilitated by Joanne Dahlgren, meditation practitioner.

BOOMER ZUMBA
Thursdays, December 8 to February 16; 3:30 p.m; 11 classes for $60; Cardio fitness with a Latin flair. Dance to Afro-Caribbean music and Latin beats, with flamenco, belly dance, rock and hip hop. Katie Pina, Instructor.

SERENITY YOGA: FOR BEGINNERS
Thursdays, December 8 – February 16; 7:30 to 8:30 p.m; 10 classes for $55; Relaxing, basic yoga practice with a series of gentle postures to build strength, balance and flexibility. Geared for beginners and returning yoga students. Just bring a yoga mat, towel and pillow. Pat DuMont, certified yoga instructor.

STRESS AND YOUR BODY
Thursdays, January 4 to February 16; 7:15 to 8:30 p.m; 7 weeks $18. Explore the nuts and bolts of the stress-response system and its effects on the body while learning powerful tools to cope with this common aspect of a busy life. This video/lecture series is based on the research of Dr. Robert Sapolsky, acclaimed Professor of Biology and Neurology at Stanford University for “Great Courses” video series. Facilitated and enriched by Dr. Malvena Baxter, visiting professor, Salem State University.
